According to The Asahi Shimbun, Japan’s consumer price index for January jumped 4.2 percent year-on-year, the sharpest rise since September 1981, during the second oil crisis.
The internal affairs ministry announced the figures for the month excluding perishables on Feb. 24, with the CPI hitting 104.3. Food and energy prices continue to rise, mainly due to soaring global resource prices. https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14847001
