According to The Australian Financial Review, cash buyers piled into Melbourne’s CBD during the June quarter, snapping up 601 apartments, the largest volume of mortgage-free residential property transactions of any suburb in the country, amid signs downsizer activity is ramping up, data from online conveyancing firm PEXA shows.
This comes as the number of homes sold without a mortgage jumped sharply across the biggest states during the same period, with Victoria posting a 24.3 per cent rise, NSW notching a 31 per cent increase and Queensland lifting 14.4 per cent. https://www.afr.com/property/residential/cash-buyers-flock-to-melbourne-cbd-gold-coast-apartments-20230719-p5dpf5

According to The Asahi Shimbun, business confidence has dramatically improved after COVID-19 was downgraded to the equivalent of seasonal flu.
An Asahi Shimbun survey of business sentiment among 100 major companies nationwide found that 76 viewed the domestic economy as “expanding” or “gradually expanding.” The finding represents an increase of 30 companies from the previous survey last November. Many corporate leaders are optimistic that economic activity and personal consumption are on the rise now that the novel coronavirus has lost its “scare” factor. However, concerns remain about labor shortages and a slowdown in overseas economies that could impact Japan. https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14965289
According to The Asahi Shimbun, some Shinkansen are carrying perishable freight along with passengers, as railway operators and food producers alike expand the use of high-speed trains for urgent goods.
Cargoes of live seafood, ripe fruits and other delicate goods are being packed aboard passenger cars across Japan's network of high-speed rail tracks. “Our aim is to help revitalize local communities through delivering food products formerly available exclusively in certain zones to large cities,” said an official of the regional reinvigoration department of West Japan Railway Co. (JR West). “Our expectation is that, in turn, consumers in urban areas feel like going to their production spots.” https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14957565 |
