According to The Australian Financial Review, Amazon Australia has upped the ante on retailers by slashing prices of its flagship devices and branded products by as much as 70 per cent during its first local Prime Day promotion.
Amazon kicked off Prime Day deals at midday on Monday, undercutting domestic retailers including Woolworths, JB Hi-Fi, Myer, Kmart, Kogan.com, catch.com.au and Baby Bunting by reducing prices on products including consumer electronics, kitchen wear, baby goods, fashion, footwear, beauty and toys. The biggest discounts were on Amazon devices such as Echo Plus and Echo Dot speakers, which were reduced by 50 per cent, Amazon's Fire TV stick, discounted by 29 per cent, and Kindle e-readers, down 28 per cent. Amazon also cut the price of big name brands such as Bose, Sony, Sonos, Braun, Huggies, Lego, Nike, Puma, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Fossil and Lorna Jane, in some cases offering discounts of as much as 70 per cent.
